Available
in English, French, and Spanish
Developed
by Lori A. Frost, M.S., CCC/SLP and Andrew
Bondy, Ph.D., this manual guides the
reader through the six phases of PECS. The
goal of PECS is to provide children with
an effective and functional means of
communication. Using picture symbols,
children learn to construct sentences and
more complex communications. They are
taught to initiate communication in a
social context. Many children learn
"the exchange" in the first
training session. This manual includes
instructions for constructing the
pictures, discrimination training tips,
data sheets, and a PECS parent handout.
This is the essential manual for the
implementation of PECS. |

A Picture's Worth-
$16.95
A Picture's Worth: PECS and Other Visual Communication
Strategies in Autism,
|
| Written by Andy Bondy and Lori
Frost, examines the value of nonverbal communication
strategies for children with autism, and describes the
Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).
After a
thorough review of verbal communication development, A
Pictures Worth explains how autism affects the
acquisition and progression of those skills. Without
the ability to express themselves, children with
autism experience a high level of frustration, which
is the root cause of many undesirable behaviors. The
book explores the relationship between behavior and
communication, teaching parents how to recognize
patterns in their own childs behavior and when to
begin a visual communication program such as PECS.
Bondy and Frost describe the six phases of training in
PECS and provide many real-life case studies, along
with a complete series of lessons, from beginner to
more advanced PECS techniques.
